Lisa Beth Cornwell, of Northbrook, IL went home to be with her Lord on Friday, April 24, 2015 when her heart could give no more. Lisa was born on May 21, 1960 in Kalamazoo, MI, grew up in North Muskegon, MI and resided in the Chicago area since graduating in 1982 from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN. Lisa is survived by her husband, Craig McCroskey whom she joined in marriage at St Pauls United Church of Christ in August 2003. Lisa and Craig brought with them 9 children to their marriage and she is survived by them, including: Lisa’s three children - Laura Burrows, Lindsey Dicksen, and Christian Cornwell Mergl and her six step-children - Jordan Benjamin (wife Kathryn), Josiah Cole, Erin Elizabeth, Anaka Morgan, Chandler Glenn and Noah Jonathan McCroskey along with three grandsons. Lisa is now reunited with her mom, Sara Burrows Cornwell who preceded her in death and is survived by her dad, John Walter Cornwell, sister Laura Lynn Cornwell (husband Jeff Brokaw and children Ben and Abby Brokaw, and Caleb Burrows Cornwell Brokaw), brother John David Cornwell (wife Emily Modde and daughters Ellie and Mika Cornwell).
Lisa lived her life to be a loving mom and wife and to impart and share her gentle yet strong Christian faith. And second only to that was her long-time membership and dedication to St Pauls UCC. Through her life she filled many roles and participated in many groups and services at the church. Of all these, she loved singing in the Chancel Choir and playing her flute in services. Lisa was passionate about organizing and beautifying indoor spaces and loved to put her interior design skills to work. She was an incredible hostess and welcomed any and all always (especially if someone else did the cooking). She was an avid genealogy researcher and leaves for her family much information and many stories of their predecessors and family roots. While she loved looking back at history, her highest joy came from spending time with her family and friends. While growing up Lisa spent her summers at the family cottage on Higgins Lake, MI and this tradition continued through her life and was passed down to her children as it remains a special place for the family.
